Adult Ministries

In addition to Sunday classes, missions, and outreach, Polk Street UMC has a wide variety of offerings for adults of all ages. Please click on the links below for more information and check the Publications section for current events.


Adult Sunday School Classes

Adult classes are availabe for all ages. They meet each week from 9:40-10:45am.

Classes for Young Adults (18-40 years old)

  • Young Adult Class (302): Twenty to Thirty Something, married and single, discussion of relevant life and faith issues. This class meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m.
  • Foundations (Room 201): This new class is for couples with young children. Contact dixierobertson@psumc.com for more information
  • Cornerstone (413): Married with children, Bible based discussion format.

Classes for Middle Adults (40-60 years old)

  • Genesis (Room 297): Married and single, a broad range of Biblical teaching related to family and individual faith.
  • Horizons (Room 305): Married and single, focusing on relevant life issues through various study methods.
  • Mobley (304): Married and single, Bible-related topics.

Classes for Senior Adults (60 years old and up)

  • Homebuilders (Room 301): Married, widowed using the International Adult Bible Study Series.
  • 50-50 (Room 303): Married, widowed, using the Cokesbury Adult Bible series.
  • Friendship (105): Married and single using in-depth Bible study curriculum.
  • Life Two-Gether (Room 205): Married and single experiencing the empty nest, care of elderly parents and the joy of grandchildren. They enjoy fellowship and studying a wide range of topics.
  • 20-40 (Room 406): Married and single, Bible study and discussion format of contemporary issues related to the Christian faith.

Intergenerational Classes

  • Aldersgate (Room 308): Married and single joining in a study of the Bible and social issues.
  • Hallelujah (Church Library-2nd Floor): Adults using Bible-based curriculum. The lesson begins at 9:40 with fellowship at 10:15 to accommodate choir members who leave early for warm-up.
  • Seekers (Room 306): Married and single, with children of all ages, seeking continuous faith journey using Wesley’s quadrilateral of tradition, scripture, experience and reason.

Women’s Classes

  • Mary and Marthas (Room 415): varies in ages, using a variety of adult curriculum.

Men’s Classes

  • Mavericks (Youth House, south of Church building): varies in ages, using the International Bible Study series.

The United Methodist Men-UMM

The UMM of Polk Street are involved in many service activities in the Amarillo area. They meet regularly in small group settings. The entire UMM body also meets several times a year for meetings and programs.

Two weekday opportunities

The United Methodist Men’s Tuesday lunch group meets in Room 205 of the church each week from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Bring your own lunch and we will provide the drinks, the fellowship and the study. All men are invited to join us. This is a great time to develop new friendships and to grow in your walk with God.

The United Methodist Men's Friday Breakfast Gathering meets in Church Conference Room each week at 6:45 a.m. For more information please call the church office 374-2891.

The United Methodist Women - UMW

United Methodist Women is a community whose purpose is to know God, to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, and to develop a creative, supportive fellowship. This organization is committed to participate in the global mission of the United Methodist Church through study and mission projects. Polk Street UMW offers five Day Circles, meeting in various members’ homes, an Evening Circle and Quilting Circle that meet at the church. All women are welcome. Call the Church Office for meeting times and dates.
