On Saturday, January 26, 54 scouts and their parents participated in the God & Country retreat which was held in the elementary wing of Polk Street United Methodist Church.

Scouts from across Amarillo spent seven hours in classes and workshops to fulfill the requirements to earn their religious emblem award.  Adult volunteers and leaders that made the event possible included:  Matt Hand, Brian Bruckner, Paul Strouhal, Dr. Burt Palmer, Rev. Kevin Deckard, Chris Bruckner, Jody Henderson, Keith Hope, and Ken Knight.

Though awarded by the local church, this program is officially recognized by the Boy Scouts of America, Camp Fire USA, Girl Scouts of the USA and American Heritage Girls as the religious awards program for youth. In addition to participating in the meetings and completing family projects, youth are required to share what they have learned with the pastor before they are eligible for the award.

Many of these scouts will receive their Religious Recognition Emblems on Scouting Ministries Sunday on February 10th during the 10:55 a.m. worship service at Polk Street UMC.

During the past 7 years, over 250 scouts have earned their religious recognition emblem through retreats held at Polk Street UMC.
