On Sunday, March 3rd, Bishop W. Earl Bledsoe will be preaching at Polk Street United Methodist Church.
According to the conference website, Bishop Bledsoe never imagined that he would be a Bishop in The United Methodist Church. "My dad always said it. Even when I was a part time pastor, he would always say 'you are going to preach and you're going to be a bishop one day.' I said 'no, daddy.'"
His Dad was right and he lived long enough to see his son be what he always knew the young Bledsoe would become. Bishop Bledsoe was elected to the Episcopacy in 2008. "I called mom and she went to the nursing home and let Dad know. When she told him, he said 'Praise God. Halleluia.'" The elder Bledsoe died in 2009.
Bishop Bledsoe and his wife, Leslie, have been married 27 years. Leslie lost her eyesight 10 years ago after being misdiagnosed with headaches. A staph infection in the cavernous sinus of the brain caused swelling that cut off blood supply to the optic nerves. "Although Leslie does not have eye sight, God has given her 'insight,'" said her husband. Leslie serves as a motivational speaker and helps others with vision impairment discover their God-given purpose in life.
