Missions & Outreach

Outreach Opportunities

As the body of Christ, we are called to do his works. Towards this goal, Polks Street United Methodist Church has many ongoing missions and we invite you to get involved with one or more of them. We have a wide variety of missions with varying levels of time commitments. Whether it's an hour a month here in Amarillo, or 24 hours a day for seven days straight during the summer, there is something here for everyone. If you have any questions about our missions or outreach, please contact kevindeckard@psumc.com

Basic Buddies

This outreach ministry involves spending a day or part of a day each week as a friend to one of the clients of Jan Werner Adult Day Care. This is a great opportunity to share the love and fellowship of Jesus Christ to those in need. If you would like to be a Basic Buddy, please contact Kevin Deckard at 374-2891 or kevindeckard@psumc.com

Snak Pak 4 Kids

This is a new mission for Polk Street which involves preparing food bags for elementary school children to provide them with meals on the weekends. We have adopted San Jacinto Elementary School and will be feeding around 140 kids per weekend during the Fall & Spring semesters. Volunteers help prep the packaged food, organize the food bags and deliver the food bags each Friday to the kids’ lockers at the school. You can also adopt a kid by providing $16.00 per month to feed that child on the weekends. For more information contact Kevin Deckard at 374-2891 kevindeckard@psumc.com

English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language ministry of Polk Street UMC is one that is growing in demand. The program is computer based, but you don’t need to be a computer whiz to teach it. All you need is a heart to help others learn English and a good grasp of the English language yourself. Our current need is more tutors. For more information contact Kevin Deckard at 374-2891 kevindeckard@psumc.com

Another Chance House

Another Chance House is a home for men who have recently been released from incarceration in a correctional facility. They are striving to become productive members of society. There are strict requirements for all residents including holding down a job, keeping the home clean and in good repair and absolutely no panhandling on street corners. Polk Street UMC has committed to providing at least one home cooked meal a month to the 50 - 55 residents of Another Chance House. If you would like to help prepare/purchase and serve a meal please, contact Kevin Deckard at 374-2891 kevindeckard@psumc.com
