What to Expect During Worship at Polk Street

Each week, we offer two worship services at Polk Street UMC.

Worship Service in the Sanctuary

The first service begins at 8:30am and the second at 10:55am.  Both services are held in the Sanctuary at the top of the main Polk Street staircase.  Services usually last under one hour.

Parking is available in the church lot (north of the main building) and across Polk Street in the Amarillo College parking lot.  Handicapped spaces are available in both lots.  Reserved spaces for seniors are in the Polk Street lot next to the building.  A golf cart shuttle travels through both parking lots to help those with mobility needs.

Belltower Entrance
Belltower Entrance

If stairs are an issue, enter the building through the “Belltower” entrance (located at ground level at the base of the belltower.  Entering through these doors leads you to an elevator that opens directly into the back of the Sanctuary without any steps.  Handicapped seating is available in the balcony on the 2nd floor, along the back of the Sanctuary, and in the front row on the “organ” side of the Sanctuary.

If needed, nursery is available in the early childhood ministry area on the first floor hallway by Ware Chapel.

Upon entering the Sanctuary, ushers will hand you a worship bulletin and insert.  The bulletin contains all of the prayers, songs, and responses for the service.  The insert features information about our church family and upcoming events in the life of the church.

Worship folders for kids will be handed out at the conclusion of “children’s time” at the front of the church.  This is a short message geared towards the younger ones.  Unless directed otherwise in the worship bulletin, children usually come down to the front during the final verse of the opening hymn for children’s time and return to their families after the brief message and closing prayer.

Ware Chapel

Communion is held during worship on the first Sunday of each month and offered every other week at 9:30am in Ware Chapel.  Communion is served at an “open table,” meaning you do not need to be a Methodist or a member of Polk Street UMC to receive communion.

Please give us a call in the church office if you have any questions regarding worship.
