FAQs

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7

How do I get there?
Polk Street is located at 1401 South Polk Street in downtown Amarillo, just off I-40 and I-27.

Where do I park?
There is Guest Parking available on the northwest side of the church facility.  Regular parking is available on the north side of our campus, across Polk Street to the west of the church, or street side all around our campus.

Where do I go when I get in the building?
On Sunday for worship enter on the northwest or west side of the building.  The handicap accessible entrance is on the west side of the church under the bell tower and you will be taken by elevator to the sanctuary.  Signs and Greeters are available to help assist where you will need to go.

I’m coming for worship; what do I do with my children?
We welcome children of ALL ages in our worship spaces.  We encourage families to worship together as children are very much a part of the body of Christ!  Children three and under are welcome to take advantage of our nursery located on the first floor.  See a Greeter or Usher for details.

Do I need a mask?
At this time masks are not mandatory.  There is normally space available in the balcony for those wishing to social distance from others.

What are the differences in the worship services?
Both the 8:30 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. worship services are traditional in nature with traditional hymns, prayers, a children’s message, and a sermon.  At 9:35 a.m. in the Ware Chapel a short service of Holy Communion is held.  Our 10:55 worship in the sanctuary includes a full choir, more special musical selections, and is broadcast on television the following Sunday.

Am I expected to give when the offering plate comes by?
All are invited to financially contribute to Polk Street’s ministries however, our members are the only ones who have taken a vow to financially support our church’s ministries.  As a guest you are welcome to give or not as you feel comfortable.

Will I have to stand and be recognized as a visitor?
No! We are so glad you are here, and we want to make you feel comfortable during your visit, so we promise we won’t do anything to embarrass you or place undue attention on you.

Will you show up at my house unannounced if I fill out the Guest Information card?
No! We promise to honor your privacy. However, we would love a chance to follow up with you by letter or email just to let you know how glad we are that you were here and answer any questions you might have about the church.  We will not include you on any permanent mailing list until you are ready for that.

What do I do when I’m ready to join?
Here at Polk Street, people are invited to join as they feel called to join.  We also have periodic events to get you started on the road to membership or to help introduce new members more to our church called Polk Street Primer. It’s a time to meet other new congregants, hear about the mission and vision of the church, learn who we are and what we believe, and take a tour of the church facility.  Shortly after Polk Street Primer we have a New Member Sunday, where people can join as a group instead of having to stand in front of the church all by yourselves. We have one question of everyone who joins, but it’s a five-part expectation. The hope is that all our members will support the church through their (1) prayers, (2) presence, (3) gifts, (4) service, and (5) witness. In other words, every member of Polk Street should be praying for the church, actively participating in the church, giving to the church as God leads, serving the church in some way, and sharing the message and love of Christ and the church in the community. If you are thinking about joining, please contact one of the pastors and they will be happy to walk you through the process or check out the link below.
