Music Ministries

"Sing lustily and with good courage. Beware of singing as if you were half dead, or half asleep; but lift up your voice with strength. Be no more afraid of your voice now, nor more ashamed of its being heard, than when you sang the songs of Satan."

John Wesley

Check out our amazing choirs and musical groups

Polk Street has a wide variety of choirs, choral ensembles, and musical groups. Select the one that fits your affinities or age.

Sanctuary Choir

Outstanding music is the hallmark of our large and historic sanctuary choir. The Sanctuary Choir sings every Sunday at both worship services and performs with a full orchestra and with guests during Advent, Lent, Easter, and other special occasions. Choral experience and ability of all ranges are welcome to participate in this important Polk Street ministry. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays 7-8 p.m.

Adult Handbells &
Children's Chimes

Our Jubilate and Wesley Ringers and Tower Chimers practice each week and provide special music monthly in our 10:55 worship service.  Our bell ministry consists of long-time ringers and beginners alike. You will be blessed by the leadership and direction of our Associate Music Director. Adult handbells rehearse Wednesdays 6-7 p.m. and children and youth rehears Wednesdays 5:30-6:00 p.m.

Singing STARS

A couple of dozen members of the sanctuary choir visit nursing home and assisted living facilities across the area to share the joy of music with those unable to attend worship any longer. This special ministry is a vital part of reaching our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Children & Youth Choirs

Our children and youth choirs are important parts of helping form our children and youth into faithful Christians. It's a wonderful blessing to see the beauty and gift of music grow in our young people. Children's Choir rehearses Wednesdays 6:00-6:30 p.m. Youth Choir rehearses Sundays 5-6 p.m.

Summary of Opportunity

We are excited to share an opportunity that has arisen for our church choir.  Last fall our director George Biffle received an email from DCINY (Distinguished Concerts International New York). Inviting us to perform the religious music of Pepper Choplin and Mary McDonald, in a special concert alongside 4 other selected church choirs with an orchestra in Carnegie Hall in NY city. The concert will take place on November 28, 2022.

After receiving the church’s blessing to begin planning for this event, a committee of church choir singers has been meeting to discuss fundraising and travel logistics to New York.  We have coined the slogan "Polk Street to Carnegie Hall"

"This amazing concert of sacred music will be the culmination of 3 days of rehearsals in Carnegie Hall including a dress rehearsal and the concert itself."

Questions can be directed to the “Polk Street to Carnegie Hall” committee co-chairs, Antonio Charles at 806.463.8412 or Dan McIlroy at 817.319.4816.

Use of Surplus Funds

Monies raised in excess of the trip will be contributed to the church music department. It is our hope that this dinner and concert becomes an annual tradition for the church. In doing this we hope to be able to have funds set aside so that they may be allocated to future needs for the music department in our church such as but not limited to: robes for the church choir, new music, bells, and any other needs of the children’s choir or other musical groups in our church.

Conclusion Choir History
