Life Lessons from Pastor Mark 8.20.19

This week I went shopping to build our 30ft. banana split Ice Cream Sundae on Wednesday night. I personally had so much fun buying all kinds of ice cream, chocolate, cookies, cherries, sprinkles, whipped cream – I was literally like a kid in a candy store!  I was so happy that I was even whistling while I shopped!

A shopper stopped me and asked what all the ice cream was for. I told her my church was building a 30 ft. banana split Ice Cream Sundae on Wednesday night, and she said, “Now that’s the kind of church I want to go to!”

Another shopper asked me why I was so happy. I told her I was excited about getting all of this ice cream for this church event. She replied, “Sounds like a lot of fun. I wish more churches did things like that!”

This happened a couple of other times as well. When I was checking out, even the checker asked if she could come to the party. I replied, “Party?”  She said, “You must be having a party with all of that ice cream. And I want to come to!”

While I invited them all to our Polk Street Celebration where we will eat all of this delicious ice cream, I am not really sure if they will come or not. But it sure got their attention. Five shoppers and one clerk know that Polk Street is a fun place and that we are building a huge ice cream sundae this week.

It makes me glad to be a part of Polk Street UMC, where we have fun. And I am really looking forward to our Wednesday night Polk Street Celebration as we hear about wonderful plans for this year, build our 30ft. banana split ice cream sundae, and have fun!

Maybe that’s what David meant in Psalm 122:1, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”
