This week at Polk Street UMC 7.14.19

Welcome to this week’s Snapshot of the life of Polk Street UMC.

Summer time often means vacations and leisure. Many people in the Panhandle head to the mountains for some rest and relaxation. This is usually after a season of planning and dreaming of sleeping in, enjoying family, or just soaking in beauty of the mountains.

But what happens when those best made plans fall apart and it seems the vacation turns into a nightmare?  What happens then?

This Sunday, our message will be “Heading for the Hills” from Psalm 121. We’ll have a special witness from our campers fresh back from Ceta Canyon’s “Whoz We R” camp, and we’ll pray for our youth who will be going next week to Ceta Canyon’s “Nova.”

If you are in town, on vacation in Amarillo, or joining us online, I hope you will worship with us this Sunday as we “Head for the Hills” at Polk Street UMC!

Mission Moment – San Jacinto Elementary School Supplies

The Fall semester of school is begins August 13th.  It has been our annual outreach to San Jacinto Elementary School to provide some school supplies for the teachers.  This blesses the teachers in a tremendous way because they often go out and buy needed student supplies with money from their own pockets.  This year we are collecting the following:

  • Glue Sticks

  • School boxes (please no zipper bags)

  • Folders with brads

  • No. 2 pencils

  • Hand cleaner

Please do not purchase or bring any other supplies not on this list.  Thanks so much for your generosity which expresses itself in the love of Christ to our friends at San Jacinto Elementary School.

PSUMC Youth Choir

We are delighted to introduce, Holly Johnston as our new Assistant Director of Music Ministries. One of Holly’s responsibilities is leading the (new!) Polk Street UMC Youth Choir, which will begin rehearsals in August.

Growing up in Friona and attending Friona UMC, Holly recognized the importance of music in her life and as a ministry. She was part of the Spirit Wind Youth Choir, and she wants to give our youth the same opportunity she had; to be a part of something bigger than themselves. This is a ministry that serves both the individual and the community, and she assures the youth we will certainly be doing both.

Holly is graduating from WTAMU with a Bachelors of Music with an all level certification in December. She looks forward to sharing the love of Christ through the gift of music with our youth. Should your youth want to be involved in this wonderful adventure, please contact Holly at hollyjohnston@psumc.com.
