This week at Polk Street UMC 7.7.19
Welcome to this week’s Snapshot of the life of Polk Street UMC.
Singing is an essential part of our worship services every Sunday. Singing to the Lord is a part of our faith tradition, a part of our culture, and is accessible to almost every person.
Have you ever thought about our singing? It’s more than karaoke and even more than a solo in the shower. What if singing could transform our daily life? What if it could make a difference in the quality of our spiritual life? What if there was an “Open Mic” in front of us in church? Singing is so much more than what we hear or actually sing. There is depth in our singing that can help be an anchor for our souls in whatever season of life in which we might be engaged.
This Sunday, July 14, Polk Street will be hosting a Youth Choir from Christ UMC in Plano called “Living Proof!” This 40-member Youth Choir will lead us in worship at the 8:30 am and 10:55 am services, and we’ll have a special message from Psalm 150 called “Open MICS.”
At 12:00 pm, Polk Street will host a Youth Luncheon for our Youth and Living Proof in the Great Hall with a catered lunch, youth mixer, and an opportunity to sing with “Living Proof” as one choir in the Great Hall. This will help us launch the planning of a new Polk Street Youth Choir of our own.
I hope to see you either in person or online this Sunday. God bless you, you family, our youth, and Polk Street UMC!
This Sunday: Guest Youth Choir from Plano, Texas
Welcome to the Living Proof Senior High Youth Choir this Sunday, July 14, in the 8:30 and 10:55 a.m. Worship Services. This 40-member youth choir comes to us from Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas (the church from which Rev. Margie McNeir came). They are beginning their Rocky Mountain Choir Tour here in Amarillo. You will not want to miss their beautiful, inspiring music as we gather on another glorious Sunday to worship. Please plan to attend worship this Sunday and give them a big Polk Street Welcome!
Mission Moment – San Jacinto Elementary School Supplies
The Fall semester of school is just over a month away and the first day of class begins August 13th. It has been our annual outreach to San Jacinto Elementary School to provide some school supplies for the teachers. This blesses the teachers in a tremendous way because they often go out and buy needed student supplies with money from their own pockets. This year we are collecting the following:
School boxes (please no zipper bags)
Folders with brads
No. 2 pencils
Please do not purchase or bring any other supplies not on this list. Thanks so much for your generosity which expresses itself in the love of Christ to our friends at San Jacinto Elementary School.
